Job Title: Blaster

The following duties are required, but not limited to:

  • Maintain work areas, keep free of trash and debris

  • Clean inside of railcars

  • Ability to work in a confined space

  • Operate Track Mobile, Backhoe, and Fork Lift.

  • Grit blast inside of railcars by operating a blast hose with 100 psi of pressure

  • Install scaffolding inside of railcars for blasting

  • Remove scaffolding from inside of railcars

  • Enter railcars for Blasting Inspection

  • Perform quality, non-destructive testing on surface profiles

  • Assist outside crew with railcar part removal and replacement

  • Maintain Quality Assurance programs and procedures through preventative maintenance on all equipment that is directly involved in Quality Process

    These functions are repeated as a matter of daily routine

    The Blasters will be required to use and work in confined spaces during his/her duties and  therefore, must be medically approved by a doctor to wear a respirator before employee can start work (Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standard 29 CFR 1910.134 (b) (10))- Respiratory Protection.

    (10) Persons should not be assigned to tasks requiring use of respirators unless it has been determined that they are physically able to perform the work and use the equipment. The local physician shall determine what health and physical conditions are pertinent. The respirator user’s medical status should be reviewed periodically (for instance, annually).

Physical Activity Requirements

The following are essentials to perform the required job

functions:

  • Move 100-pound scaffold boards

  • Climb railcar ladders and enter into railcar through 18-inch man-ways

  • Operate 100 psi blasting hose to blast inside of railcar

  • Work from ladder and scaffolding and reach above shoulder height

  • Operate company industrial vacuum equipment

  • Manipulate over railcar tracks and unimproved yard area

  • Operate Track Mobile and Fork Lift

  • Use a wheelbarrow and shovels, moving grit at approximately 25 pounds per shovel

  • Assist in railcar part removal and replacement

  • The employee will be handling materials daily which require the ability to use hands, arms, legs and back to physically handle, lift and move light to heavy items.

  • The employee will be working a specified shift and moving around at all times, which requires the ability to stand and be mobile for a minimum of 8 continuous hours daily.

Environmental Demands

The following are essential on a daily routine in the

performance of his/her duties:

  • Employee will be required to work in changing weather conditions, like rain, with appropriate rain gear.

  • Employee will be required to work in noise areas and must be able to use hearing protection.

  • Employee will be exposed to dust, fumes, odors, vapors, etc. Employee must be able wear respirators; and must be able to bear exposure to these elements without allergic reaction.

  • Employee will be required to work in ambient outside temperature environment.

  • Our facility can be extremely hot or cold at times, so the candidate must have the ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time in temperature extremes.

Educational Requirements

No special education or training is required. The Blasters must be able to read and have basic writing and math skills.
